1950's Timeless Fashion and Beauty

The 1950's was a time where style exemplified class and grace. The make up was softer and more feminine .

·         Peaches and cream complexion was the basis of any 50’s make up.   It was applied as either a liquid or as pressed powder.   Eyebrows were usually narrowed.   Blush and eye shadow were minimal.
·        For the evening eyeliner was liquid, making sharp, highly defined contour. It was primarily on the upper lid.
·        Pastel colours were favoured for the day.  Red could be worn by day but it was usually used for the evening. Lips were lush and full.

The big influencing designers of the 50's were Chanel, Dior, Gucci and many more. These influential desingers brought us the "pencil skirt" and many   woman seem to wear " the Chanel Suit". These were only among some of  big  fashion statements that were made by designers. Dresses were a big rage but so were trousers and skirts. Fashion changed hugely for woman during this era. New fabric was created which gave a bigger choice for design which resulted in brighter colours. We also saw new discoveries such as the bikini and new designs for bags The Hermes Kelly bag gained its name from Grace Kelly who was seen holding a large one trying to hide her pregnant stomach. These bags were very popular during this era.

Hair in the 50's became more exciting and woman would spend more time and money on their hair.
Straight hair was  out and curls were in. Short hairstyles were also popular during this period.
Hair styles such as the feathered allure, soft bob look, swirlawave and the new wave were all
favourites of the early to mid 50's. Also not forgetting the Pompadour which was a huge 50's trend
along with soft curls and rolled bangs. These hairstyles define this period to a "T". They showed
elegance and promoted a new turn in fashion and beauty in this amazing era.

Hope you enjoy these little facts on my favourite era.

The Great 1950's

The 1950's was an era of great films, iconic movie stars and timeless fashion.  It introduced new ways of thinking and bringing different culture that still stands with us today. When we think of the 1950's we think of great stars like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, Eva Marie Saint and Marlon Brando. These stars brought new meaning to film and a new light to the movie industry. They were entertainers in their world and are still among some of the greatest actors that we have to this day.

During the 1950's we also were introduced to great musicians  like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Nina Simone to name a few. These musicians exceeded the hopes of the public and today are still huge stars. They brought new meaning to the world of music and their genres.Today they are still inspirations to the new and upcoming musicians.

The 1950's was a strong era for great people. It was a new beginning after WW2 but yet still had some of its own difficulties with war still ongoing. It was not perfect but can you say any era has been. We all have seen the trouble these people suffered and yes some people were worse off but  over all it was an era of great entertainers, musicians and fashion. How can you not love it.!:)
